MSc Renewable Energy and Clean Technology / Course details

Renewable Energy and Clean Technology also known as REaCT is a truly multi-disciplinary course focused on key areas that underpin the rapidly developing renewable energy and low carbon sectors, built around core understandings of electrical power generation from solar, wind and marine sources.

This course covers the interfacing and distribution technologies required to exploit these sources, and provides a sound understanding of the fundamental concepts, the design and analysis techniques required for engineering renewable energy systems. It also equips the students with the knowledge required to understand how to convert and distribute electrical energy from renewable sources, integrate it into low-carbon energy districts and buildings, through an intelligent use of flexible distributed resources, such as storage devices. However, the impact of renewables technologies diminishes if demand and carbon emission issues are not tackled, hence critical policy topics also key to the course.

The future of learning in Manchester

Our Home for Engineering and Materials Science is transforming the way our students study, research and shape the world forever. Now, more than ever, is the time to study at the University of Manchester.

At the heart of the building’s design is a desire to bring together all disciplines, in one connected and dynamic environment. The space supports a variety of teaching and learning styles, through blended lecture theatres, multi-purpose study spaces and over 250 state-of-the-art laboratories. There is also a range of technical spaces to help encourage students to shape their own learning environment.

We want our facilities to show ambition as well as recognise the real-world challenges that students will face in addressing some of the most pressing issues of our time. Our Home for Engineering and Materials Science boasts some of the most unique, industry-leading equipment and instrumentation in the sector to meet today’s requirements and those of the future.
